Police: Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting boy
NEWTON, N.C. -- The man who police believe shot a child in Newton last week has died.
Newton Police say Christopher Davis was under investigation for the shooting that left the 8-year-old boy with a gunshot wound in the hand.
Davis died on a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. He was pronounced dead at CMC Main.
Officials say it appears Davis was a convicted felon who should not have been in possession of a firearm.
The incident happened Friday evening in the 800 block of Ervin Avenue. Police say Davis got into a fight with his ex-girlfriend, pulled out a pistol and fired at her home. The boy, who was standing in his bedroom, suffered minor injuries.
Davis then turned the gun on himself, according to police.
