A Charlotte teenager was killed Friday in a shooting in Eastern North Carolina, according to reports. Jasmine Danielle Thar, 16, died after she and two others were hit by one or more gunshots outside a home in Chadbourn, about 50 miles west of Wilmington, The Fayetteville Observer reports.

Thar was shot in the chest, according to the newspaper, and her 16-year-old cousin and another female relative were injured. Investigators told Wilmington TV station WECT that the shooting may have been accidental, the result of someone trying to clean a rifle.

The investigation is ongoing, but apparently no one had been charged as of Friday night. As news of Thar's death spread in the Charlotte area, her friends and classmates shared memories of her and sent condolences to her family through Facebook and Twitter.

Friends identified her as a student at Ardrey Kell High School. You were always so nice and helpful to me in math and always made me smile in homeroom, one friend wrote on a Facebook page set up in Thar's memory.

I will miss (our) conversations where you made me laugh so hard! I don't think they make people like Jasmine anymore, wrote another. She always had a smile on her face, and always saw the bright side of everything.
