Second victim identified in deadly Lancaster shooting
LANCASTER, S.C. -- Two people are dead after a shooting late Wednesday night in Lancaster County.
Deputies said Stephen Lamont Westbrook, 39,was killed and a second man was initially critically injured after being shot around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday. The second victim, 25-year-old Javon Belk, died on Thursday, NewsChannel 36 has learned.
Authorities were called to a home off of Old Blackmon Lane after getting a report that shots were fired. Once they arrived on scene, they discovered Westbrookdead from a gunshot wound in the driveway of the home.
Investigators saidWestbrook came to the home to rob someone for drugs. During that robbery attempt, Westbrook and Belk began shooting at each other.
Both Westbrook and Belk, based on their criminal histories were prohibited by law from possessing firearms, deputies said.
Belk, who lived in Lancaster, was found at a home a few miles from where the shooting took place, according to the police report.
Investigators said they did find two different firearms and a significant amount of drugs inside the home where the shooting took place.
Both Belk and Westbrook had a very lengthy criminal history. Both have been convicted of violent crimes, weapons charges, and drug charges, Lancaster County SheriffBarry S. Faile said. It is unfortunate that these individuals lost their lives however when you lead a life of crime and drugs, tragedy is bound to occur.
