KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Several homes in Kannapolis were evacuated Wednesday morning due to a natural gas line leak caused by construction crews working in the area.

Emergency crews controlled the broken four-inch line on Mooresville Road between Charlie Walker Road and Bethpage Road around noon, and residents were able to return to their homes.

Kannapolis Fire Department Haz Mat crews responded to the scene, according to KFD, and the road re-opened Wednesday afternoon.
