WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Police in Winston-Salem say the bodies of a father and son have been found in a parking lot at a city park.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1gLE5Xh) that police said 58-year-old Charles Timothy Nichols and his son, 29-year-old Charles Timothy Nichols Jr., were unresponsive and lying in the parking lot at Salem Lake Park on Wednesday. Authorities said both men had gunshot wounds.

Police said weapons were found at the scene. Officers closed the entire park after the bodies were discovered. The park's trails were reopened, but its parking lot and entrance remained closed most of the day.

According to the city's website, Salem Lake covers 365 acres and has a popular 7-mile trail around it.
