MINT HILL, N.C. -- Plans are in the works for a candlelight vigil to honor 4-year-old Kilah Davenport.
The little girl never fully recovered after being severely abused by her stepfather, 22-year-old Joshua Houser. He is charged with felony child abuse.
Jeff Gerber with the Kilah Davenport Foundation says the 4-year-old girl reportedly stopped breathing Thursday at home. Her mother unsuccessfully tried to revive her with CPR. Kilah was then taken to Northeast Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Sunday s vigil will be at the Forty Rod Roadhouse in Mint Hill at 8 p.m. There will be a Celebration of Life for Kilah Saturday March 22 at the Oaks Events in Midland starting at 2:30 p.m, the public is invited to attend. Kilah's autopsy results have not yet been released.
