CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A train and a tractor-trailer collided in south Charlotte Thursday.

The call came in around 9:40 a.m. for the crash near Texland and Wesgtinhouse Boulevards.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are still piecing together what happened.

One person suffered minor injuries.

Nearby workers tell NBC Charlotte they hear the train whistles every day, but stop arms and lights would making the crossing the tracks safer.

I think they should have more signs for the railroads and have arms that come up and down. I don't think they should just have a wooden sign on the side of the road, John Maffy said.

The exact cause of the crash is unknown.
