NEWTON, N.C. -- Newton Policehave released a surveillance photo that shows 31-year-old Maggie Daniels during some of the final hours of her life.

The photo is from a surveillance camera at a Walmart in neighboring Conover, and was taken Friday morning, June 27. She is wearing pink shorts and a t-shirt, and is carrying shopping bags towards the parking lot.

Police say they cropped out a female friend who was with her, saying the friend is not a suspect in the case.

The morning after the surveillance photo was taken, the body of the teacher and guidance counselor from Discovery High was found sprawled on the floor of her apartment in Newton.

Police have still not said yet how she died or if there is a suspect in what they say is a definite homicide.

Newton Police Chief Donald Brown says the picture of Daniels is helpful in piecing together her final hours.

We are trying to narrow down and develop a timeline and pinpoint where she was and what the timeline is for that day, Brown said.

A memorial service is to be held Wednesday in Newton for Daniels. It will be held at the Newton Conover High School from 4 to 6 p.m. Her family members are expected to attend the memorial.
