ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. The state highway patrol is investigating a car accident that killed a Troutman teenager.

The incident happened around 1:45pm off Highway 150 west of Salisbury. Trooper Morgan tells NewsChannel 36, 4 people were sent to the hospital including a 1, 2, and 4 year old. None of which have life threatening injuries.

There were two 17-year-olds involved in the accident. Brittany Newton, 17, was ejected from the SUV and later died. The driver, Kember Turner, was treated and released from the hospital.

Trooper Morgan says Turner was likely not paying attention when the vehicle ran off the side of the road hit an embankment and then a utility pole. Turner and Newton were friends according to Trooper Morgan.

Charges are pending against teen driver.
