SHELBY, N.C. -- A pair of neighboring homes in Shelby were destroyed in an early morning fire on Friday.

Fire officials responded to two houses on Antrum Street south of East Grover Street near Cleveland Regional Medical Center around 5:15 a.m.

The homes were vacant, and it took firefighters about 30 minutes to put out the fires. A third home was also burned.

Officials said firefighters were delayed to respond to the scene due to downed power lines.

It's unclear what started the incident, and no one was hurt.
