CHARLOTTE, N.C. The upcoming Democratic National Convention is one of the largest events ever held in Charlotte and everything will be top notch.

Sally Webb, CEO of The Special Event Company, is planning a welcome party at Discovery Place for more than 1,500 people.

Some of the delegates we have, we New York and (Washington) D.C. We were really delighted to win Discovery Place because it s a downtown venue, it s a great space to work in, Webb said.

For security reasons Webb said they have been restricted from talking about what kind of food will be served.

Inspire the Fire, the hip-hop choir and dance group from Charlotte that appeared on America s Got Talent will perform at the event.

Webb couldn t talk about who would be attending the event, but she offered some planning advice whether it s a party for 1,500 or 15.

Lighting is key to any event. You know, don t spend your money on huge centerpieces. If you re going to put your money anywhere, spend it on lighting, Webb said.

It s important to make the guest feel relaxed with low lighting and highlight the feature of the event.

Make sure that you have at least one wow item, Webb said.

Webb says to keep food bite sized and keep drinks really simple.
