TAMPA -- There are a number of protests planned for the Republican National Convention in Tampa this week.

In the streets surrounding the convention hall on Monday, police vastly outnumbered protesters.

There was one arrest, a man who refused to remove his bandana after a march through downtown.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe is in Tampa watching how authorities handle the big event.

NewsChannel 36 anchor Dave Wagner talked to Monroe as a group of protestors walked past the chief.

(We re looking) for a visual picture of what s going on. The deployment of the officers. We ve had a good opportunity to talk about their strategy, not only for this march, but for other activity that is going to occur over the week. I think we re pretty close as it relates to what we each are looking to do and what we want to accomplish, Monroe said.

Monroe spent Monday morning talking to Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor. Monroe says he thinks Charlotte is ready for whatever the DNC brings.
