MATTHEWS, N.C. -- A Grinch is targeting holiday displays in a Matthews neighborhood.

This one is completely ripped and slashed, said Ofer Hubara as he pointed out where a large inflatable dradle and an inflatable menorah were both sliced open on his front lawn on Grand Provencial Avenue.

Looking at the menorah, he said, This one they even ripped it off the ground.

One of Hubara's young sons discovered the vandalism when he looked out of the window Thursday morning, thinking the wind had blown them over.

A closer inspection showed it had been intentional.

Initially, I was just sad. I was sad for my kids. They love these decorations and they look forward to us doing it every year, said their mother, Tara.

Because other decorations on the street were not vandalized, the family feared at first that they had been targeted because of their Jewish faith.

Matthews Police Department spokesperson, Corporal Lori Valdes said, It is not being investigated as a hate crime. There were reports of other decorations damaged in the area as well.

Around the corner from the Hubara's home is another house with a Hanukkah-themed inflatable that had not been slashed.

Still, neighbors said they were surprised at what had happened.

Jonathan Wu lives not far from the Hubaras and said, You know, you imagine nothing like this is going to happen in our neighborhood.

Anyone with information about what happened should call Matthews police.
