CONCORD, N.C. -- A wreck on Interstate 85 Saturday morning led to the death of a 17-year-old girl.
Troopers say Autumn Theresa Makell was killed when her father hit a guardrail and spun out on I-85 near Concord.
Makell and her twin brother, Antoine Tavone Makell, were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the SUV. Autumn died from injuries she sustained during the accident.
Antoine is expected to be OK, according to troopers.
The father has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Items cited in the accident report were exceeding safe speed for conditions and operating defective equipment.
The back tires were worn to the point where the thread of the tire was showing, according to the report.
The father was driving a 2005 Ford SUV rental car from E-Z-Way Car Sales & Cash Car Rent, according to troopers.
