TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. -- A residential fire led authorities to a big drug bust in Alexander County.

Just before 10 on Friday night, crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Pleasant Hill Church Road in Taylorsville on a report of a structure fire.

Crews from Vashti, Sugar Loaf and Taylorsville Fire Departments battled the blaze at the mobile home.

Once the fire was contained, firefighters discovered what appeared to be a controlled substance inside the home.

The Alexander County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene, and a search warrant for the home was obtained and executed.

The Sheriff's Office K-9 unit led officers to the seizure of more than 25 pounds of marijuana, about two pounds of methamphetamine and one pound of cocaine. Additionally, authorities seized $16,000 in cash, a money counting machine, a vacuum pack machine and a 40-ton press.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Authorities say an investigation has been launched on the occupants of the home, and they say it appears the occupants may have ties with other counties.

The investigation continues.
