CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene of a two-alarm apartment fire in the Derita area Sunday morning.

The fire broke out at an apartment complex in the 4500 block of Wynbrook Way in the 4 o'clock hour Sunday morning officials say.

Two people were taken to the hospital for observation, according the NBCCharlotte's reporter on the scene.

Four families were displaced, as four units suffered either extensive smoke, fire or water damage. The fire department did turn off power to another four units while they worked to fight the blaze, but those families will be able to return to their homes.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene and is assisting the families affected by the fire.
