CHARLOTTE, N.C. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a woman with misdemeanor death by vehicle after a motorcyclist died.
The crash happened Saturday morning at the intersection of Providence Road and Wendover Road. According to police, James Junior Johnson, 53, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle along Wendover Road when Susan Brown pulled out in front.
Officials said Brown, 50, was in the left turn lane with a flashing yellow turn arrow. Authorities said she made a left turn in front of Johnson, the grill of her BMW X5 stuck Johnson and he was ejected from his motorcycle. The impact threw Johnson onto the outbound lanes of Providence Road. The collision caused a domino effect.
The front of the BMW then struck the front of a Ford F150 that was stopped at the red light on outbound Providence Road. Johnson was on the ground below the two vehicles, a release from police stated.
After the second collision between the BMW and F150, both drivers then backed up to allow access to Johnson, authorities said.
Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene, the other drivers were not injured.
Brown, the driver of the BMW, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. According to CMPD, neither speed nor alcohol use were factors in the collision.
