CHICAGO, Ill. -- The boyfriend of a missing North Carolina teacher will madee an appearance in a Chicago courtroom Saturday.

Angelo Grayson Smith Jr. was arrested in Homewood, Ill. on Thursday by U.S. Marshals. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police requested the assistance of the federal authorities to find and arrest Smith.

CMPD issued a warrant for Smith's arrest on Sunday on a contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge. The charge relates to Bianca Tanner's 3-year-old son.

The Circuit Court Clerk of Cook County says the judge denied bond for Smith. He will remain in Chicago for the time being. His next scheduled court appearance is set for Monday. Officials have not said what this hearing is regarding.

Matters of extradition have not yet been discussed in front of a judge.

Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are in Chicago. A spokesperson with CMPD could not confirm more to NBC Charlotte's sister station WFMY when asked if Charlotte detectives have interviewed Smith.

Smith s attorney told the media his client planned on returning to Charlotte once he learned a warrant was issued.

Tanner recently moved to Charlotte from Greensboro with her 3-year-old son.

The original search for Tanner is now classified as a homicide case but Smith has not been named as a suspect. Search warrants released by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police reveal more information about what may have happened before the 31-year-old woman disappeared.

Among the information released by police last week, the warrants stated Tanner's 3-year-old son told investigators, Mommy got a spanking with a belt; Angelo kicked mommy's butt and made her cry; and Angelo is mean to mommy and hurt mommy in the face.

CMPD says Smith had outstanding warrants out of Arkansas for domestic battery.
