MONROE, N.C. -- Thousands are spending part of their day enjoying the sights, sounds and fun at the annual Warbirds over Monroe air show.

The show, held at the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport, has become a must see attraction for people all around, said Peter Hovanec of the City of the Monroe. We'll have lots of exhibits, plane and even explosives.

More than a half dozen vintage planes will fly maneuvers over the airport and on the ground. There are exhibits and activities for the whole family, said Hovanec.

Part of the event is a drill team competition involving five area high schools.
