CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A consulting firm is now on Charlotte's payroll. Its task is to study state lawmakers plans to remove control of the airport from city control.

Some state lawmakers want to turn Charlotte-Douglas over to a regional authority.

Oliver Wyman will conduct a study on the proposal and turn over results to the city in May.

Six city officials and business leaders will serve on a committee looking into the issue.

On Thursday, the city will hold the first of several public hearings on the matter at the government center at 1:30 in the afternoon
