CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Holly Fischer s friends had hoped for a different outcome, but say they are at least grateful that she s been found.

Fischer grew up in the Charlotte area, and many people from this area joined the search that ultimately led to finding authorities to finding the body of the 39-year-old who graduated from Charlotte Latin and Chapel Hill.

Her best friend from their days at Charlotte Latin, Liz Stafford, told NBC Charlotte Fischer was starting her own design firm and was excited about the future.

I just want people to know Holly had the biggest heart of anybody that I knew, Stafford said. We loved to laugh and have a good time, and not take anything for granted. And we enjoyed the simple things.

Friends organized search teams that spent the weekend combing the area where her cell phone last registered, and late Sunday they noticed the broken brush near where she went off the road.

What we are all so grateful for is that we rallied an amazing amount of people that loved Holly to find her... grateful we now are able to have closure, Stafford expressed.

The fact that so many people dropped everything to join the search is a testament to how many people loved Holly, she continued.

I think it expresses what kind of person she was, Stafford says, It didn't take much to get an enormous team together and those people were a reflection of her.

A team now at least grateful they have answers.

We know that Holly is with the angels, and she is safe and in peace. And we now can go on because we know where she is.

Monday morning, Holly Fischer's family released the following statement:

The Fischer family can now confirm that Holly Fischer s car has been located. The car was located off Highway 16 in Millers Creek, NC. It is with unbearable sadness that we can also confirm that she was not found alive. Our hearts are broken. The family does wish to express their tremendous gratitude to the countless volunteers and authorities that have participated in the search for Holly. Without your tireless efforts, we believe Holly Fischer may not have ever been found. We are all devastated to lose our beautiful daughter, sister and friend. We do ask that everyone respect the family s privacy at this difficult time.
