LANCASTER, S.C. -- A man was shot in the back while attempting to flee an armed robbery in Lancaster early Friday morning.

Lancaster Police say the victim was driving in the area of St. Paul and Thomas Lane when he was flagged down by a black male and two black females.

The man asked the victim for a ride to the store to get gas, and the victim agreed.

When leaving the store, the victim reported the man pulled a gun, made the victim drive around and empty his pockets.

The suspect then told the victim to drive to an apartment complex in the area of Chesterfield Avenue. That's when the victim reports he attempted to jump from the vehicle and flee, but was shot in the back.

The victim was taken to Springs Memorial Hospital, and was then flown to CMCMain. Officials say the victim is stable.
