ALBEMARLE, N.C. -- An Albemarle man is charged in connection with an armed robbery Monday night.

Albemarle Police say Brett Michael Shields held a clerk at knife-point at the Village Mart in the 1600 block of Highway 52 North Monday evening.

Shields allegedly produced the knife upon entering the store, just before 8 p.m. The clerk handed over the cash, and Shields fled the scene without further incident, police say.

Detectives quickly responded and were able to identify Shields as their suspect. Shields was arrested several hours later.

He's charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $25,000.
