ROWANCOUNTY, N.C. -- The Rowan County Sheriff's Office is looking for a 21-year-old man who they say escaped custody Wednesday morning.

Jameel Kenneth Stephens-Maddox, 21, of Spencer, was arrested Wednesday morning by Rowan County Sheriff's Deputies for seven outstanding warrants. When deputies arrived at Stephens-Maddox's home, he ran out the back door. Deputies were able to apprehend him a short time later.

Stephens-Maddox was taken to the Rowan County Magistrate's Office for processing and a bond hearing. While officers completed his paperwork, Stephens-Maddox was handcuffed to a metal bar in the holding area.

The Sheriff's Office says Stephens-Maddox was able to free his hand from the cuffs, run out the door, jump onto a patrol car inside the fenced-in area of the Magistrate's Office, and make his way over the razor wire fence.

The Sheriff's Office, along with Salisbury Police, are actively searching for Stephens-Maddox. If you know where he is, you should call 911 immediately.
