GASTONIA, N.C. -- A woman was rushed to a hospital Wednesday afternoon after she was struck by a train in Gastonia.

Gastonia police say 31-year-old Regina Starr was crossing or walking on the tracks at East Airline Avenue and North Rhyne Street when she was struck by the train just after 12 p.m.

Starr was taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. An update on her condition has not been released.

Police say Starr is a single mother and family members will be taking care of her children.
