CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- When Eric Cox went before Judge Donald Cureton Tuesday afternoon, he had plenty of support from family and friends.

None of them would talk to NewsChannel 36 as they left the Mecklenburg County Courthouse. Cox is accused of running a red light on East Sugar Creek Road and plowing into a car, killing H Loun Siu and critically injuring her 4-year-old son.

Police say H'Luon Siu finished working the second shift at a Huntersville greenhouse, then picked up her young son from a sitter to go home for the night.

It s not the first time Cox has been accused of drunk driving. He was convicted in 2009, and because of that prosecutors asked for a $2 million bond.

Cox s mother and father pleaded for a lesser amount. His father teared up in court and said his son is not a flight risk. After much anguish, Judge Cureton settled on $350,000 in bond.

If Cox makes that, he will be under 24 hour house arrest and must wear a scram bracelet which monitors alcohol usage. Cox will be under a strict no tolerance policy.
