CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An accident involving an FBI agent has shut down the outer loop of Interstate 485 near Steele Creek Road Thursday afternoon.
Highway Patrol says an on-duty FBI agent in a black SUV was parked on the left shoulder of the highway when a pickup truck veered off the road and slammed into the SUV. Witnesses say the woman driving the truck was speeding.
Traffic is being directed off of I-485 at the exit ahead of Steele Creek Road while crews work to clear the highway.
Three people suffered potentially life-treatening injuries and the driver of the pickup truck had to be airlifted from the scene to CMC Main, according to medic.
