NEWTON, N.C. -- Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield will go to court on a possession of methamphetamine charge in April, when he is scheduled to appear on four other charges.

Mayfield was scheduled to be in Catawba County Superior Court on Monday. Prosecutor Kyle Smith said he spoke with Mayfield attorney David Freedman last week about moving Mayfield's appearance to April 2.

Mayfield was indicted on felony possession of methamphetamine on November 7.

Indictments by a grand jury released last month charged Mayfield with three counts of possessing property stolen from businesses, and a fourth charge of obtaining property by false pretense. He has called the latest charges baseless.

In November, authorities raided Mayfield's Catawba home after which he was charged with possessing 1.5 grams of methamphetamine.
