LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- A music director at a church in Lincoln County accused of raping a 13-year-old girl back in 2004 is no longer working at that church, NewsChannel 36 has learned.
Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies charged Brandon James Carter, 33, with one felony count of statutory rape and taking indecent liberties with a minor.
According to the police report, Carter had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl back in August 2004.
Carter was the music director at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville, but the church secretary said Friday that Carter is no longer employed by Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Carter was not employed at the church when the incident happened in 2004, according to the police report.
Carter was released under a $25,000 secured bond.
