CHARLOTTE, N.C. On Wednesday night Charlotte gets a first look at The Hunger Games movie during a special private screening at Regal Stonecrest.

The movie hits theatres Friday, but productions like this could not happen without hundreds of extras.

Tona Dahlquist works between Charlotte and Columbia, South Carolina, but she is very well known in Hollywood. She served as extras casting coordinator for The Hunger Games, which was filmed throughout the Charlotte area.

Early on, producers sent her a script to a movie she admittedly didn't know a lot about.

I didn't know anything about it when I first got the call, and I happened to be having a general conversation with a relative who, when I said the Hunger Games, freaked out, Dahlquist told NewsChannel 36's Bobby Sisk. Once I read the script...I knew it was going to be something special.

Now, the movie may break box office records this weekend and Dahlquist, who has worked on major films like Oscar-winning Forest Gump, played a major role

I knew early on (it was big). I typically post things on our Facebook (casting) page and when I would post something, next thing I know I would get called in because it would be on all of the national sites, she added.

Dahlquist knows the buzz around the movie is good for the Charlotte area.

This community, as far as Charlotte goes, is so accommodating for films and friendly and it s such a pleasure to film here.

Dahlquist says filmmaker Lionsgate choosing the Charlotte region to film speaks volumes about the area. She is already working on several other future projects right now, including a few she can t talk about.

But Dahlquist did say she is casting for a pilot to air on the CW Network. The show called Shelter features director Mark Swann, the creator of One Tree Hill.

We're looking for a lot of attractive 20-year-olds. They could be jocks, cheerleaders or fraternity or sorority types. Models or even attractive funky kind of kids, she said.

To contact her for extras casting, submit your information and a picture to charlotteextras@gmail.com.
