CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three men fled from a van after robbing a loan and tax services building in east Charlotte Monday afternoon.

The robbery took place at the Regional Finance Corporation at 4401 East Independence Boulevard near the intersection of East Independence Boulevard and Albemarle Road around noon.

The business helps customers with personal loans and tax preparations.

Last week four banks were robbed in the Charlotte area.

A Wells Fargo bank in the northeast part of the city near UNC Charlotte was robbed on Tuesday afternoon as well. Police arrested a man in connection to that robbery last Thursday morning.

The BB&T in southwest Charlotte was robbed on Wednesday afternoon while The First Citizens Bank in Myers Park was robbed Thursday afternoon

There have already been nearly 50 bank robberies in Charlotte thus far in 2012, compared to 30 total through the first three months of 2011 and 38 through the first three months of 2010.

The number of reported bank robberies has fallen statewide over the last five years. A total of 129 bank robberies were reported in North Carolina in 2011 compared to 263 in 2007.
