CHARLOTTE, N.C -- Victims of Hurricane Sandy are getting help from the Charlotte area in the form of donations, a some music.

Grammy-winning gospel singer John P. Kee, whose church is based in Charlotte, is collecting canned goods, baby items, formula, and new or gently used clothes.

Kee will take the items to New Jersey on Thursday, where he and the New Life Community Choir will perform a gospel benefit concert Thursday night with other local churches.

Kee was on tour for his new album in Arizona when he saw the damage from Sandy on TV. He decided to head back to Charlotte to head up the relief effort, according to his event coordinator Shakeema Bouyer.

Anyone who wants to donate items or money can take them to the New Life Fellowship Church on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. The church is located at 1337 Samuel Street in Charlotte, in the back of what used to be the Double Oaks community off Statesville Ave.

Anyone who has too much to carry can call the church at 704-377-4004.
