GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- One person is behind bars and an arrest warrant issued for a another after police report finding dozens of firearms, a large quantity of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash.

On Thursday, an officer with the Gaston County Police Department was conducting a follow up investigation at a home in the 300 block of Chestnut Ridge Church Road in the western part of the county when he reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana.

The officer secured the scene and awaited the arrival of additional officers, investigators and a K-9 unit.

Upon searching the premises, officers seized 45 firearms including assault rifles, shotguns, handguns and rifles, approximately nine pounds of marijuana, Hydrocodone and more than $5,000 in cash.

The resident of the home, Mark Wesley Walters, 41, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell (marijuana), manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling marijuana and Hydrocodone, trafficking opium or heroin, conspiracy to traffic opium/heroin, conspiracy to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of Hydrocodone and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.

Walters is held in the Gaston County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

Arrest warrants were also obtained for another resident of the home, Tracey John Walters, for many of the same charges Walters is facing.

Authorities say the investigation continues, and further arrests are possible.
