MONROE, N.C. -- A K-9 unit sniffed out marijuana on the Monroe High School campus.

On Thursday, an officer on duty at Monroe High School discovered a bag of marijuana discarded in a trash can while utilizing the passive drug dog for a building and classroom search of the campus.

The trash can was located near the gym lobby area.

The officer reviewed surveillance tape and was able to identify the student.

The juvenile, who will not be identified, will be charged with drugs on school property.
