HARRISBURG, N.C. -- A tip from a citizen led deputies from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office to disrupt an attempted armed robbery in progress, officials say.
Around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, dispatch received a call from a citizen stating a suspicious man with his head and face covered had just entered the Circle K gas station in the 5000 block of Highway 49 South.
Within minutes, deputies arrived on scene and found the suspect standing on the customer side of the check out counter.
Via the loud speaker on the patrol unit, deputies issued commands which the suspect, 22-year-old Ryan Berry Kiernan, of Concord, complied with, officials say.
Deputies report finding a black firearm on the counter of the check out, which they later determined to be a BB handgun.
The clerk of the store reported Kiernan displayed the firearm during the attempted robbery while demanding cash from the register.
Kiernan was booked in to the Cabarrus County Law Enforcement Center under a $100,000 bond.
