DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- The state chapter of the NAACP is scheduled to hold a news conference to discuss the changes to North Carolina elections signed into law by Gov. Pat McCrory.

Tuesday's news conference is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

On Monday, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People filed a lawsuit against McCrory in federal court.

McCrory quietly signed the measure on Monday and appeared in a YouTube video to talk about the voter ID provision of the bill.

The lawsuit argues that the law violates a section of the Voting Rights Act which bans voting procedures that discriminate on the basis of race, color, or membership in a language minority groups.

The suit also challenges the law under the 14th and 15thAmendments to the U.S. Constitution.
