FORT HOOD -- Hundreds of Fort Hood soldiers and their families were expected to attend a solemn memorial service on Wednesday, one week to the day since three soldiers were killed on post.

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama were scheduled to attend the service. The president will give remarks honoring the three men.

Three soldiers and more than a dozen others were injured when Specialist Ivan Lopez, 34, opened fire on post last Wednesday afternoon.

Lopez was angry over being denied leave time and had just argued with fellow soldiers before he started firing with a .45-caliber handgun, according to Army officials.

Wednesday's memorial will honor Sgt. Danny Ferguson, Sgt. Carlos Lazaney-Rodriguez, and Sgt. Timothy Owens. Owens and Ferguson grew up in small towns, while Rodriguez was originally from Puerto Rico.

The service is expected to include remarks from post commander Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, President Obama, and perhaps other friends or family.

The president will speak from nearly the exact place he was at in 2009 when there was a similar service for 13 soldiers also killed on post.

You can watch the service stream live starting at 2 p.m. at WFAA.com.
