CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Fire Department said Monday that possible causes of the fire at an apartment complex that displaced nearly 50 people are careless discarding of smoking material or fireworks.
Without evidence, such as witnesses surveillance footage, investigators have officially classified the fire at The Edge apartments as undetermined , but say likely causes are careless discarding of smoking material and/or fireworks.
Some residents say they did hear fireworks going off shortly before the fire started.
The Charlotte Fire Department estimates the property damages to be $560,000. They say the fire started on a porch and quickly spread to adjacent units. T
The Red Cross is assisting the complex in helping the tenants find places to stay.
