CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Two people were in the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries and a third was being treated for less serious injuries after a car ran off the road and struck a building in south Charlotte Saturday.

The silver SUV struck the building at the intersection of Ardrey Kell and Rea roads around 10:30 a.m., authorities said.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene minutes later and had to cut one of the victims out of the vehicle.

Medic officials took all three people to Carolinas Medical Center in Dilworth for treatment.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had cleared the roadway about an hour after the wreck occurred.

Few details about what caused the accident were immediately available.
