CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a 30-year-old cold case rape was solved on Tuesday.

Police charged Roger Dale Honeycutt, 61, with rape, sexual assault and burglary.

According to police, in 1981 Honeycutt broke into a woman's home on Sharon Amity Road and sexually assaulted the victim.

Honeycutt was free on bond at the time of his arrest. He was charged in October 2010 with a second rape also in 1981.

In both cases, rape kits were resubmitted and matched Honeycutt's DNA.
