HUDSON, N.C. -- Police and Medic responded to a fire that injured one person at a chemical building in Caldwell County Thursday afternoon.
Police say an internal flash fire broke out at RPM Wood Finishes Group at 3194 Hickory Boulevard around 3:30 p.m. The fire broke out in a tank in the paints and coatings production building on the site, said Gordon Hyde, an RPM spokesperson.
One person was taken to a nearby hospital in Hickory, and all 250 employees were evacuated from the building.
The Hudson Fire Department said no hazardous materials were released, and damages were limited to a small area in the building. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Thursday's incident comes less than a year after a massive explosion at the same plant that forced 750 people to evacuate their homes.
Highway 321 was temporarily closed as several emergency departments responded to the building, but the highway reopened around 4 p.m.
