KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- A Kannapolis man was killed Friday evening after police say he walked into the path of an oncoming car.

The wreck occurred around 8 p.m. on South Cannon Boulevard near the intersection of Fairview Street.

The victim was identified as 63-year-old Baldomero Feliciano-Bautis, who lived about a block from where the crash site, said Lt. Bryan Ritchie of the Kannapolis Police Department.

Police said they believe Feliciano-Bautis stepped in front of a vehicle that was traveling north on South Cannon Boulevard. Ritchie said the driver had the right-away but said he did not see the victim, who was wearing dark-clothing.

Ritchie said the area near the crash site has street lights, but is not well-lit. He said there is no designated crossing area for pedestrians.

At this point, no charges have been filed in the case though Ritchie it will be up to the District Attorney s Office to make final decisions on any charges.
