CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has named the officer who shot and killed a man following a standoff Saturday.

CMPD responded to the 2500 block of Penninger Circle around 1:15 a.m. for an assault with deadly weapon call.

When they arrived, the man who called police told them he and his father got into an argument, and his father shot at him but missed.

Police say the suspect, 59-year-old Lemuel Rufus Furr, barricaded himself in the house and refused to come outside. When he finally left the residence, police say he came out pointing two handguns at officers. Ofc. Olin Lester shot him, and Furr was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lester has been with CMPD since September 2000. He s part of the Vice and Gang Unit and is a member of the SWAT Team. Per standard protocol, Ofc. Lester has been placed on administrative leave.

Detectives are conducting an investigation to determine whether all CMPD procedures and policies were adhered to during the incident.
