CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A child was hit by a car while running to get on a school bus in east Charlotte Friday morning.

The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. on Idlewild Road near Lailwood Circle.

The bus was traveling inbound on Idlewild Road approaching the bus stop. Before the bus arm actually came out, the boy ran out in the street and was hit by a car heading in the opposite direction.

The boy was hit by the mirror of the car and briefly knocked out, according to Medic.

The second grader was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, but is expected to be OK. The student attends Piney Grove Elementary.

Police are still on the scene investigating the incident. No word yet if the driver of the car will be charged.
