CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Two people were rushed to the hospital after a freak accident involving an SUV that plowed into a home on Monday morning.

The Charlotte Fire Department says that an SUV struck a home on Bass Lane, and went through a wall, striking a cleaning crew working on the other side of that wall.

Two of the three cleaners were injured and taken to CMCMain with life threatening injuries.

Fire crews are working to stabilize a wall to protect the home from further damage, as the damage to the home is already extensive.

It's signficant damage, says Charlotte Fire Battalion Chief John Harding, It's a trust roof here, with load-bearing points on the outside, but the wall they took out does carry a bit of load.

It's not yet clear what caused the accident.

The Charlotte Fire Department hopes to have the scene cleared by mid-afternoon Monday. The homeowners will not be able to occupy the premises Monday, officials say.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.
