GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- Attorneys voiced their drastically different views in the trial of a former East Gaston High wrestling coach accused of child sex crimes. Gary Scott Goins faces multiples sex crime charges in Gaston County.

District Attorney Locke Bell told the jury Gary Scott Goins took advantage of the three accusers in the case and created a reckless culture in the wrestling program.

He learned what it was like to be choked out by the defendant to where the artery is shut off until you pass out, said Bell.

Defense Attorney Brent Ratchford countered by portraying Goins as a tough coach and saying there was a reason these three accused Goins.

Wrestling is a fight. These are fighters. Everyone of these young men are fighters and that's important to remember, said Ratchford.

Friday the trial continues and Judge Jesse Caldwell and the attorneys involved anticipate the trial lasting between two and three weeks.
