NEWTON, N.C. -- The Newton Fire Department is turning to technology to help them keep the community safe.

The department bought ten iPads with a grant from the Catawba County Health Department.

Firefighters say the tablets should help them respond to calls more efficiently. They will also track the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
