CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Investorsand protestors prepare to gather in Charlotte today for the annual Bank of America shareholder meeting.
The meeting will be the first public appearance for Bank of America executives since the bank announced it would drop plans for a dividend increase this year.
The city of Charlotte has declared today s Bank of American shareholders meeting an 'extraordinary event,' allowing CMPD officers more freedom to search backpacks and bags in the uptown area.
The city applied the same approach at last week s Duke Energy shareholders meeting.
The city plans for events expected to draw large crowds. In past years, the shareholders meeting has brought protesters to uptown.
Police officials said that both -- BofAand Duke Energy -- meetings in the past have attracted a significant number of demonstrators.
Police have set-up barricades they plan to line up outside Bank of America s headquarters to make sure protesters don t trespass.
The extraordinary event area is set-up from Trade, Graham, Stonewall, Davidson and Seventh streets.
