STATESVILLE, N.C. -- A man stole a weapon from the store he later robbed, according to Statesville Police.
The incident is one in a series of robberies police say 26-year-old Ricky Foote committed this week.
Officers first responded to the Family Dollar location on Shelton Avenue around 10 p.m. Monday.
Employees say the suspect threatened the cashier with a box cutter, reached into the register and fled on foot. Investigators determined the Foote was in the store previously and allegedly stole the box cutter minutes before the crime.
Then at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to another robbery call at the Sleep Inn on Turnersburg Road. Police say the suspect handed the employee a note demanding money and fled.
The third incident happened around 7:30 a.m. at Red Roof Inn on East Broad Street. Police say the suspect again used a threatening note to steal money from the desk employee. He fled in a cab.
Officers caught up to the taxi shortly after and pulled over the driver. Foote jumped from the car and began to run, according to officers. Police say he threw money at them as he fled and he was stopped soon after in the JR Tobacco parking lot.
Detectives identified Foote as the suspect in each crime. No one was hurt in any of the incidents.
Police say the cab driver was unaware of the robbery.
Foot was booked into Iredell County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond for charges of robbery, resisting arrest and defrauding a taxi driver.
