MARSHVILLE, N.C. -- Police have identified the woman whose body was discovered in a car in Union County early Sunday morning.

Marshville Police say 34-year-old Alicia Sligh was found in her car on the wrong side of White Street Sunday morning with a gunshot wound to the head.

It was about 3:00 and we heard a horn blow and looked out and saw a car there, and she was in the car, said Michael Hall, who lives on White Street in Marshville.

The car was running and Sligh was slumped over the wheel.

We are investigating this as a homicide and [are] following up leads, said Chief Carl Webber of the Marshville Police Department.

Police say Slight recently moved to Marshville from just up Highway 74 in Wingate.

Erika Melton lives on the same street as the victim. She described the victim and who she said is the victim's husband as an average all-American family .

Melton said she hadn't seen them much or spoken to them but thought the woman who lived in the house with her husband and two children seemed nice and quiet.

This is so sad that something like this can happen, because it hits so close to home, Melton said.

Anyone with information on this case should call Marshville Police.
